FREQUENTLY ASKED
REAL QUESTIONS,
REAL ANSWERS.
Who should join the Academy? +
Any independent artist, label team, producer, DJ, or music creative who wants to understand how the industry actually works — from metadata and royalties to release strategy and distribution. Prior releases are not required, but some real-world musical activity helps you apply the material faster.
How much time per week? +
Cohort students should plan for 3–5 hours per week — including live sessions, async lessons, and project work. On-demand courses are self-paced; individual modules average 30–60 minutes. 1:1 Advisory is a single session — no ongoing time commitment.
Do I need prior releases to join? +
No. The curriculum is designed to be practical whether you're about to release your first track or managing a catalog of 100 records. That said, you'll get the most out of it if you have a release in progress or planned — the skills apply immediately.
Will JSD distribute my music if I complete a course? +
No. Completing an Academy course does not guarantee distribution through JSD. Distribution is a separate application process. The Academy equips you to be distribution-ready — but acceptance is evaluated independently.
How are scholarships awarded? +
Scholarships are awarded based on demonstrated potential, financial need, and alignment with JSD's mission. Applications are reviewed jointly by JSD and Genius Wave Studio. Shortlisted candidates may be invited for a brief interview. 3–5 seats are available per cohort on a rolling basis.
What payment methods are accepted? +
Card (Visa, Mastercard), bank transfer, and invoice (for label teams). Payment plans are available for cohort enrollment — contact us before enrolling. Full refund available within 7 days of enrollment if no content has been accessed.
Is this legal advice? +
No. Nothing in the Academy constitutes legal advice. Our Legal Basics module covers how to read and understand common music agreements and when to seek qualified legal counsel. We refer students to vetted legal partners where appropriate — we do not practice law.
Is there a certificate? +
Yes — cohort graduates receive a JSD Certified — Release Ready credential as a shareable PDF, issued within 48 hours of capstone submission. On-demand course completions receive a module completion badge. Credentials do not imply distribution partnership with JSD.
Important: Completion of any JSD Academy course does not guarantee, imply, or constitute an offer of distribution services, playlist placement, or any commercial arrangement with Jump Street Distribution. Apply separately at jsd.co/apply.
